Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park Enhances Visitor Experience with 24-Hour Solar Power at Nossob Rest Cam
South African National Parks (SANParks) has made significant strides in improving the visitor experience at Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park by announcing the upgrade of the Nossob Rest Camp to a 24-hour electricity supply.
This transition marks a notable shift from the previous reliance on generator power, which provided electricity for only 17 hours a day. Instead, SANParks has implemented a sustainable solar power system that ensures a continuous supply of electricity at the camp, enhancing comfort and convenience for all guests. The decision to switch to solar energy not only reflects SANParks' commitment to environmental sustainability but also aligns with broader global efforts to reduce carbon footprints and promote renewable energy sources. Following this upgrade, the Nossob Rest Camp now enjoys uninterrupted electricity, allowing guests to fully enjoy their stay without the inconvenience of power outages. This development comes on the heels of a similar upgrade at the Mata-Mata Rest Camp, which also transitioned to 24-hour solar power in October 2024.
Nossob Rest Camp is beautifully located along the picturesque Nossob Riverbed, approximately 160 km north of the Twee Rivieren Rest Camp, which serves as the southern entrance gate to Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. The camp is well-equipped with essential amenities, including a shop for supplies, a fuel station for convenience, and a swimming pool for relaxation after a day of exploring the stunning landscapes and diverse wildlife of the park. While the Nossob Rest Camp itself can be accessed by 2WD vehicles, visitors should be aware that many of the surrounding roads and trails are better suited for 4x4 vehicles, particularly following rainfall when conditions can become more challenging. The park’s unique terrain offers an adventurous experience for those equipped to tackle it, and the upgrades at the camp enhance the overall enjoyment of the natural beauty and wildlife that Kgalagadi has to offer.
SANParks' commitment to improving infrastructure and visitor amenities is evident through these advancements, which aim to create a more comfortable and enjoyable experience for guests. The introduction of 24-hour solar power at both Nossob and Mata-Mata Rest Camps demonstrates a forward-thinking approach that prioritizes both sustainability and guest satisfaction. As the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park continues to attract visitors seeking adventure and a connection with nature, the enhancements made at these camps are sure to elevate the overall experience. Tourists can look forward to enjoying the park’s breathtaking landscapes, abundant wildlife, and now, the added comfort of reliable electricity throughout their stay. With these initiatives, SANParks is not only enhancing the visitor experience but also contributing to the conservation efforts that protect the unique ecosystems of the Kgalagadi region.
