Brussels Airlines Expands Long-Haul Network for Summer 2025
Brussels Airlines has unveiled its long-haul flight schedule for summer 2025, showcasing a remarkable increase in capacity to sub-Saharan Africa. This Belgian airline will operate an impressive 56 weekly flights to the region, reflecting a 10% increase compared to the previous summer season in 2024.
To support this expansion, an 11th long-haul aircraft will be added to the fleet, further enhancing the airline's extensive network in sub-Saharan Africa. In addition to its African routes, Brussels Airlines maintains connections across the North Atlantic, including major cities like New York and Washington DC. With the integration of the new aircraft in June 2025, Brussels Airlines is set to boost flight frequencies to several key destinations. Notably, the routes to Nairobi, Kenya, and Accra, Ghana, will transition to daily flights, providing passengers with greater flexibility and convenience.
Additionally, cities such as Banjul (Gambia), Freetown (Sierra Leone), and Conakry (Guinea) will benefit from increased flight frequencies. The airline will also improve service to Dakar (Senegal) and Abidjan (Ivory Coast) by offering more direct flights instead of the previously utilized triangular routes. Another significant enhancement in the network is the introduction of daily direct flights to Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) starting in March 2025. Previously, the capital was connected through five weekly direct flights and two weekly services with a stop in Luanda, Angola.
This upgrade not only makes travel to Kinshasa more appealing but also promotes sustainability by minimizing layovers and the potential for delays. To facilitate these non-stop flights to Kinshasa, Brussels Airlines will streamline connections to Luanda through the Lufthansa Group. Lufthansa will operate three weekly direct flights between Luanda and Frankfurt, ensuring seamless connectivity to Angola. The final Brussels Airlines flight to Angola’s capital is scheduled for March 25, after which all passengers will be rebooked onto Lufthansa flights, allowing for non-stop service to Luanda thereafter.
In addition to its African routes, Brussels Airlines continues to operate long-haul flights to two destinations in the United States: New York (JFK) and Washington DC (IAD). Looking ahead, Brussels Airlines has ambitious plans for growth, aiming to expand its long-haul fleet to 13 aircraft in the coming years. By 2027, the airline intends to introduce a completely revamped cabin interior, featuring an upgraded Business Class, Premium Economy, and Economy Class. This commitment to enhancing passenger experience reflects Brussels Airlines' dedication to providing top-notch service as it solidifies its presence in international travel.
