he Motsamayi Tourism Group, which oversees the management of facilities at Cape Point within the Cape of Good Hope section of Table Mountain National Park in Cape Town, has officially announced the resumption of the Cape Point Funicular service as of January 8, 2025. This much-anticipated service had been temporarily suspended for maintenance since December 18, 2024.

The Cape Point Funicular, also affectionately known as the Flying Dutchman Funicular, provides a scenic journey between the Cape Point parking area and the observation point situated beneath the historic lighthouse. Spanning a length of 585 meters, the funicular ascends an impressive 87 meters from the lower station, located at 127 meters above sea level, to the upper station, which reaches 214 meters above sea level. Notably, the Cape Point Funicular holds the distinction of being the first commercial funicular of its kind in Africa.
