Landtours Acquires Elmina Bay Resort: Elevating Ghana's Coastal Tourism
Landtours, a leading tour operator in West Africa, has announced the acquisition of the Elmina Bay Resort in Ghana, a move that signals a significant shift in the country's tourism landscape. For African travel agents, this development offers a newly enhanced product to promote to clients, combining cultural heritage with high-end hospitality along Ghana's coast. This marks a major milestone for Landtours, which has been a pioneer in the region for over three decades.
Mona Boyd, Chairperson of Landtours Ghana, shared that the acquisition is a strategic move to fill a gap in the market by providing a four-star experience in the Central and Western regions of Ghana. "With this purchase, we are looking to control our supply chain and maintain service standards, particularly in Elmina," Boyd stated. This aligns with Landtours’ mission to provide world-class experiences that match the quality found in Kumasi and Accra, ensuring a consistent level of comfort and luxury throughout their clients’ stay.
The Elmina Bay Resort will undergo immediate renovations, including a complete overhaul of all guest rooms to meet higher standards. “We are expanding common areas, adding two restaurants and bars, a gym, and a large conference space,” Boyd explained. Each room will have private balconies offering ocean vews, creating a unique selling point for the property. Landtours is also committed to extensive staff training to ensure that the service is on par with international best practices.
Landtours intends to incorporate its expertise in showcasing Ghana’s rich cultural heritage into the guest experience. The resort will offer customized, community-based immersive day experiences, enabling clients to engage with local communities. Historical, adventure, and water sports-themed tours will also be available, allowing for diverse and engaging itineraries. This commitment will ensure that the guests’ experiences are both authentic and enriching.
The resort is projected to attract a diverse clientele, with 65% of guests expected from the African Diaspora, Europe, North America, and Asia. The remaining 35% will be targeted from Ghanaian and West African travelers, positioning the resort as a hub for both international and regional tourism. This strategy underscores the potential of the resort to contribute significantly to Ghana's tourism sector. Landtours’ long-standing initiatives supporting local communities will continue with the aim to bring the benefits of tourism to more communities across the country. Elmina Bay Resort is slated to open in August this year, marking a new chapter in Ghana's tourism journey.
