Ethiopian Airlines Launches New Route to Hyderabad
Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest carrier and one of the fastest-growing airline brands globally, has announced the launch of a new thrice-weekly passenger service to Hyderabad, India, starting June 16, 2025. This new route underscores Ethiopian Airlines’ commitment to expanding its global network and enhancing connectivity between Africa and Asia, offering passengers more convenient travel options.
The new service will operate on the following schedule:
- ET 682: Addis Ababa (ADD) to Hyderabad (HYD) – Monday, Wednesday, Saturday
- ET 683: Hyderabad (HYD) to Addis Ababa (ADD) – Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday
Flights will feature mid-day departures from Addis Ababa and morning arrivals on the return leg, ensuring smooth connections for passengers traveling between the two regions.
Mesfin Tasew, Group CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, expressed excitement about the new route, stating, “We are delighted to commence a new passenger service to Hyderabad. Since our first flight to Mumbai, India, in 1971, we have expanded our footprint throughout the country, offering convenient passenger and cargo transportation services.” He added that the new service will not only enhance travel options but also strengthen trade and tourism ties between Africa and India, further solidifying Ethiopian Airlines’ position as the continent’s leading carrier.
Currently, Ethiopian Airlines operates over 50 weekly flights to five Indian cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, and Chennai. With the addition of Hyderabad, the airline will further solidify its presence in India, providing passengers with more flight alternatives and seamless connections to destinations across Africa, Asia, and beyond.
The new route is expected to benefit both leisure and business travelers, as Hyderabad is a major hub for technology, pharmaceuticals, and cultural tourism. Additionally, the service will support cargo transportation, facilitating trade between the two regions.
For African travel agents, this development presents an excellent opportunity to promote India as a destination for African travelers while offering seamless connections to Hyderabad via Ethiopian Airlines’ hub in Addis Ababa. The route also strengthens Ethiopia’s position as a gateway for Africa-Asia travel, making it easier for passengers to explore both continents.
Ethiopian Airlines, a Star Alliance member, has consistently demonstrated robust growth, tripling its operations over the last decade. With the launch of the Hyderabad route, the airline reaffirms its commitment to providing world-class service and expanding its global reach.
As Ethiopian Airlines continues to enhance its network, this new route to Hyderabad is a testament to its dedication to connecting Africa with the world, fostering trade, tourism, and cultural exchange between the two regions.
