NCAA DG Stresses Revenue Optimization and Efficiency for Nigeria’s Aviation Growth
The Director General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Captain Chris Najomo, has underscored the critical need for enhanced revenue generation and administrative efficiency to drive the growth and sustainability of Nigeria’s aviation sector. Speaking at the Aviation Finance and Revenue Assurance Summit in Lagos, Capt. Najomo highlighted the event as a pivotal step in the NCAA’s strategy to revitalize the industry and position it for international competitiveness.
The summit, themed “Enhancing Cost Recovery Capabilities and Administrative Efficiency,” aims to tackle the funding challenges that have long plagued the sector, leading to service deficiencies and subpar passenger experiences. Capt. Najomo emphasized the importance of collaboration between the NCAA and domestic airlines to improve revenue collection and ensure compliance with financial reporting obligations. He noted that a lack of synergy between the NCAA’s revenue units and airline financial management teams has hindered optimal revenue performance.
The summit seeks to bridge this gap by offering training and knowledge-sharing sessions on critical topics such as financial management, cost reduction, revenue optimization, and leadership skills. Capt. Najomo expressed optimism that the initiative would mark a turning point for the sector, fostering a more inclusive regulatory model that promotes growth, economic viability, and improved passenger experiences.
The Director General also acknowledged the economic challenges facing Nigeria and stressed the need to align the aviation sector with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s eight-point agenda and the Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo’s five-point agenda. These agendas aim to enhance the sector’s contribution to the national economy while ensuring safety and efficiency.
Capt. Najomo commended the efforts of the project steering committee and the NCAA’s Directorate of Finance and Accounts for organizing the summit. He reiterated the NCAA’s commitment to improving its own operational efficiency and addressing challenges such as working capital management within airlines and a better understanding of statutory obligations.
This summit reflects the NCAA’s proactive approach to addressing the sector’s challenges and ensuring its sustainability. By focusing on revenue optimization and administrative efficiency, the NCAA aims to create a more robust aviation industry that meets the needs of both passengers and stakeholders. For African travel agents, this development signals potential improvements in service delivery and operational standards, which could enhance the overall travel experience for clients.
