Fastjet to Launch New Harare-Lusaka Route in April 2025
Zimbabwe’s low-cost airline, Fastjet, is set to expand its regional network with the introduction of a new scheduled service between RG Mugabe International Airport (HRE) in Harare and Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (LUN) in Lusaka, Zambia. Starting on 09 April 2025, this new route will operate three times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays—using a 50-seater Embraer ERJ145 aircraft.
The flight schedule is designed to offer convenience for both business and leisure travelers. Departures from Harare are scheduled for 06:00, arriving in Lusaka at 06:55. The return flights from Lusaka will leave at 07:25 and land in Harare at 08:20. These early morning flight times allow passengers to make the most of their day in either city, catering particularly to business travelers who require efficient and timely connections.
This new route marks an important addition to Fastjet’s growing regional operations. The airline already connects key destinations within Zimbabwe, including Harare, Victoria Falls, and Bulawayo. Internationally, Fastjet operates flights from Harare, Bulawayo, and Victoria Falls to Johannesburg, South Africa, as well as from Victoria Falls to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (MQP) in Mbombela, South Africa. The addition of Lusaka to its network further cements Fastjet’s position as a key player in Southern Africa’s aviation market.
The new Harare-Lusaka route will provide travelers with a much-needed affordable and reliable travel option between Zimbabwe and Zambia. Lusaka, as Zambia’s capital, is a hub for business, government activities, and tourism, making the route valuable for corporate travelers as well as those exploring Zambia’s natural attractions, such as Victoria Falls, the Lower Zambezi, and South Luangwa National Parks. Similarly, Harare’s role as a commercial and cultural center provides opportunities for Zambian travelers to explore business and leisure activities in Zimbabwe.
Fastjet’s decision to expand its network reflects the growing demand for regional connectivity within Southern Africa. The airline’s use of the efficient and versatile Embraer ERJ145 aircraft ensures that it can meet passenger needs while maintaining cost-effective operations. The 50-seater jet is well-suited for shorter regional routes, offering a comfortable and reliable travel experience.
In addition to its role in enhancing connectivity, this new route is expected to stimulate economic activity between Zimbabwe and Zambia. By facilitating easier movement of people and goods, Fastjet contributes to strengthening trade, tourism, and cultural ties between the two neighboring countries. For African travel agents, this development opens up new opportunities to offer clients seamless travel options across Southern Africa, whether for business or leisure purposes.
Fastjet’s commitment to providing affordable and efficient air travel has made it a popular choice for travelers within the region. The airline’s existing services to Johannesburg and Mbombela already link Zimbabwe to South Africa’s economic and tourism hubs, and the addition of Lusaka further extends its reach into the region. With frequent flights and competitive pricing, Fastjet continues to position itself as a leading low-cost carrier in Africa.
For travelers looking to explore the vibrant cities of Harare and Lusaka or capitalize on regional business opportunities, this new route will offer a convenient and budget-friendly solution. As Fastjet grows its network, it remains dedicated to enhancing connectivity and supporting regional integration, reinforcing its role as a vital link for Southern Africa’s aviation industry.
