Kigali’s Sky High Attraction Set to Boost Tourism
Rwanda is poised to elevate its tourism offerings with the highly anticipated Kigali Sky Wheel, set to open at the end of 2025. This \$2.7 million project marks a significant step in the country's strategy to enhance its tourism sector and attract both local and international visitors.
The 55-meter-tall observation wheel, a first for Rwanda, will be a prominent feature of the new Inzovu Mall, a mixed-use development located adjacent to the Kigali Convention Centre. This strategic placement within a bustling commercial and event hub aims to maximize visibility and visitor traffic.
Kigali, already ranked as the third favorite African city for travelers in 2024, is experiencing a tourism boom. The Sky Wheel is expected to further amplify this trend, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the city's green hills and urban landscape. The 15- to 20-minute rides will provide a unique perspective, appealing to a wide range of visitors.
Developed by the Canadian firm Mo Gashi and Partners through Kigali Ferris Wheel Limited, the project aligns with Rwanda's vision to become a leading destination for tourism, conferences, and international events. Moses Umugisha Gashirabake, Managing Director of Kigali Ferris Wheel Limited, emphasized the Sky Wheel's potential as an iconic landmark and economic driver.
Beyond the rides themselves, the Sky Wheel will offer a multifaceted entertainment experience. Visitors can enjoy spectacular night light shows, purchase branded merchandise, and indulge in light snacks and beverages. The venue will also host events, creating additional revenue streams and opportunities for local businesses.
Rwanda’s tourism sector witnessed record growth in 2024, generating \$647 million in revenue. With a target of over \$700 million for 2025, the Sky Wheel is expected to play a key role in achieving this ambitious goal. The project is projected to attract a significant portion of Kigali's projected 1.8 million visitors in 2025, contributing substantially to the local economy.
The Sky Wheel also presents valuable opportunities for brands and businesses. Premium co-branding, naming rights, and advertisement partnerships will provide high visibility and engagement with a diverse audience. This commercial aspect further strengthens the project's potential to generate revenue and contribute to Rwanda's economic growth.
The Kigali Sky Wheel is more than just an attraction; it's a symbol of Rwanda's commitment to innovation and development within the tourism sector. By offering a unique experience, creating economic opportunities, and enhancing the city's appeal, the Sky Wheel is set to become a must-visit destination for travelers to Kigali.
