Emirates Group Sets New Profit Record, Expands African Presence and Global Reach Emirates Group Sets New Profit Record, Expands African Presence and Global Reach

The Emirates Group has once again raised the bar for the global aviation industry, announcing a record-breaking profit before tax of AED 12.2 billion (US\$ 3.3 billion) for the first half of the 2025-26 financial year. This achievement marks the fourth consecutive year of record half-year profitability, underscoring the Group’s resilience and strategic agility in a dynamic market environment. After accounting for income tax, the Group’s profit after tax reached AED 10.6 billion (US\$ 2.9 billion), reflecting a robust 13% increase over the previous year.

Emirates’ financial strength is further highlighted by its EBITDA of AED 21.1 billion (US\$ 5.7 billion), up 3% from last year, and a record cash position of AED 56.0 billion (US\$ 15.2 billion) as of 30 September 2025. This liquidity has enabled the Group to fund new aircraft deliveries, service existing debt, and pay out the remaining AED 2 billion (US\$ 545 million) in dividends to its owner, completing the AED 6 billion (US\$ 1.6 billion) declared for the previous financial year.

Group revenue climbed to AED 75.4 billion (US\$ 20.6 billion), a 4% increase from the same period last year, driven by sustained demand for air travel and Emirates’ continued investment in its network and product offerings. The airline’s ability to tap into its own cash reserves for strategic investments signals a stable foundation for future growth, particularly as it expands its footprint across Africa and other emerging markets.

For the African travel sector, Emirates’ performance is more than a headline—it is a signal of opportunity. The airline’s Dubai hub continues to serve as a vital gateway for African travelers and businesses, with new flight services launched to Danang, Siem Reap, Shenzhen, and Hangzhou during the first half of 2025-26. Emirates’ network now spans 153 airports in 81 countries and territories, with additional weekly flights deployed to key destinations including Antananarivo, Johannesburg, Muscat, Rome, Riyadh, and Taipei. These enhancements provide African markets with greater connectivity, facilitating both inbound tourism and outbound business travel.

Strategic partnerships have also played a pivotal role in Emirates’ growth story. In the first six months of the financial year, the airline entered into new codeshare and interline agreements with Air Seychelles, Condor, and Aurigny, expanding its reach and offering African customers more seamless travel options. The delivery of five new A350 aircraft and the rollout of 23 retrofitted aircraft—featuring the acclaimed Emirates Premium Economy—have further elevated the passenger experience, now available on flights between Dubai and 61 cities worldwide.

On the ground, Emirates has accelerated its retail strategy, opening new concept travel stores in Accra, Mauritius, and other global cities. These investments not only enhance brand visibility but also provide African travelers with direct access to Emirates’ full suite of products and services. The launch of “Emirates First” at Dubai Airport, offering a luxurious private check-in area for First Class customers and Platinum Skywards members, sets a new standard for premium service and exclusivity.

Emirates’ commitment to sustainability is evident in its ongoing environmental initiatives. The airline has increased its use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at 37 airports and joined the Aviation Circularity Consortium (ACC) to promote a circular economy within the aviation sector. These efforts align with the growing emphasis on responsible tourism and environmental stewardship across Africa, where sustainable practices are becoming a key differentiator for destinations and operators alike.

Brand visibility has been further boosted through high-profile sponsorships, including multi-year deals with FC Bayern Munchen, Real Madrid Basketball, and the ATP Tour. These partnerships not only reinforce Emirates’ global presence but also create new avenues for engagement with African sports fans and travelers.

Operationally, Emirates increased its overall capacity by 5% to 31.3 billion Available Tonne Kilometres (ATKM), with passenger traffic up 4% and a total of 27.8 million passengers carried between April and September 2025. The airline’s cargo division, Emirates SkyCargo, transported 1.25 million tonnes—up 4% from last year—despite a 6% decrease in cargo yields due to market softness and tariff concerns. The addition of three new Boeing 777 freighters and the launch of Emirates Courier Express have strengthened the airline’s logistics capabilities, offering African businesses new options for express shipping and global trade.

Financially, Emirates airline posted a record profit before tax of AED 11.4 billion (US\$ 3.1 billion), with profit after tax rising to AED 9.9 billion (US\$ 2.7 billion), up 13% from the previous year. Revenue, including other operating income, reached AED 65.6 billion (US\$ 17.9 billion), a 6% increase attributed to strong travel demand and customer preference for Emirates’ premium cabins. Operating costs grew by 4%, in line with expanded operations, with fuel remaining the largest expense at 30% of total costs.

For Africa’s travel industry, Emirates’ sustained profitability and network expansion offer both inspiration and practical benefits. The airline’s investments in fleet, technology, and customer experience are setting new benchmarks for service quality and operational efficiency. As Emirates continues to deepen its engagement with African markets—through new routes, partnerships, and retail innovations—the continent’s travel professionals are well-positioned to leverage these developments for business growth and enhanced customer satisfaction.

Looking ahead, the Emirates Group’s record performance signals a period of renewed optimism and opportunity for Africa’s aviation and tourism sectors. With robust financials, a growing network, and a clear commitment to sustainability and innovation, Emirates is not only shaping the future of global air travel but also opening new horizons for Africa’s dynamic travel landscape.
