Uganda Air: Back in the skies after almost 20 years absence
In 2001 Uganda Airlines was grounded due to financial problems. Now they are back.
Uganda Airlines, that used to be the name of the Uganda flag carrier, has performed its first flight after almost 20 years beein non-operational. Today the airlines is newly certified and the fleet consits of two Bombardier CRJ900 at the moment. The first flight has been operated from the former capital of Uganda, Entebbe, to the capital of Kenya, Nairobi.
As per media reports, Uganda Airlines plans to operate services into Dar-es-Salaam in Tanzania, Mogadishu in Somalia and Juba in South Sudan. It has been also reported that the airline has ordered two Airbus A330-800; even there are no concrete plans know yet, as per widebody size of the planes most likely it intends to operated long-ranger services.
