Air Madagascar: Only cargo and repatriation flights
Deprived of revenue since the suspension of its commercial operations on March 20, Air Madagascar is looking for alternatives. This Thursday, July 2, 2020, the Malagasy national company announced the launch of cargo flights from Madagascar, and to destinations in the Indian Ocean and Africa. These are operated by Boeing 737-800 or ATR, with a cargo capacity between 5.5 and 11 tonnes. In addition, the national flagship also offers on-demand charter services for these passenger aircraft.
This proposal for alternative services is the consequence of the government decision taken the day before, activating the extension of the state of health emergency until July 31, 2020. Thus, only cargo flights and repatriation flights to the outside of countries are allowed in Madagascar.
Air Madagascar has therefore extended the suspension of all its international flights (long-haul and regional) until the above-mentioned date. His route to Mauritius is suspended until August 31. This is the consequence of the prolongation of the closing of the Mauritian borders until the same date.
These deadlines could again be modified, depending on the evolution of the health situation, the directives given by the Malagasy State, and the measures taken by the governments of the countries served by the transporter. The last suspension ended on June 30.
