Ghana: Kakum National Park reopens for tourism activities
After several months of closure induced by the coronavirus pandemic, the board of trustees of the Ghana Heritage Conservation Trust (GHCT) and the Management of the Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission of Ghana have agreed to reopen the Kakum National Park to the public as from 1st of August 2020.
According to a statement signed by the management, it said staff and tourists will however, be required to go through on a daily basis, health protocols and checks from the main gate, through to all the attractions, including the renowned Kakum Canopy walkway.
The statement said protocols have been developed per the regulations and guidelines provided by the World Travel and Tourism Council’s “Sanitary Measures for the Resumption of Activities in the Tourism Sector, (May 2020)”; adding that the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture’s guidelines and protocols for the tourism and hospitality industry (Food and Beverage, Event, Tourism Sites and Attractions) released in June 2020, and the expert recommendations from the Central Regional Directorate of Ghana Health Service.
“On Saturday 1st August 2020, when we reopen to the public all staff and visitors will be required to have on facemasks/shields at all times on the premises, with appropriate hand washing and sanitizing equipment and materials provided at vantage points. The required 2 meter social distance must also be observed at all times. We entreat our patrons to comply with these and other measures to mitigate the infection and potential spread of COVID-19 on our premises."
