Air Madagascar will not operate international flights before September
We will have to wait another month or so to hope for a resumption of Air Madagascar’s international flights. In an update made on July 30, 2020, the Malagasy national company announced the extension until August 31 of its international routes. These are routes departing from Antananarivo, and going to Mauritius, Reunion, Dzaoudzi in Mayotte, Moroni in the Comoros, Paris and Marseille in France, and Guangzhou in China.
To these are added the Toamasina - Reunion, Sainte-Marie - Reunion, Toliara - Taolagnaro - Reunion lines. The carrier nevertheless specifies that repatriation flights and cargo flights are not affected by these suspension measures. “These provisions could change depending on the national and international situation,” adds Air Madagascar.
This is the umpteenth time that the company has extended the suspension of its international flights. The previous deadlines were set for June 30, then July 31. These successive postponements are the consequence of the evolution of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country. As of August 3, 2020, Madagascar had 11,528 confirmed cases (255 cases identified in the last twenty-four hours) of Coronavirus, for 114 deaths. It is the 9th most affected country on the continent.
