Kenya's MICE sector: Health and Safety Protocol
Kenya has adopted the World Travel & Tourism Council health and hygiene global standardised protocols for its Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibition (MICE) sector.
This is a crucial step in the recovery process which ensures that safety and hygiene of travellers are the top priority. Events, Conference/Exhibition facilities are currently considered high-risk areas and operations remain restricted during the COVID-19 pandemic period in accordance with the country’s Ministry of Health (MOH) guidelines and shall be gradually opened with new available information on the virus.
MICE protocols standardised for Kenya take into consideration the current realities and envision the future of the industry post-COVID-19.
Here are some of the protocols that are going to feature at MICE events in the future;
- Provide adequate space between booths and aisles for ease of movement and physical distancing measures. Provide health and sanitation stations strategically located within the conference/exhibition area
- Promote and encourage online bookings to minimise physical registration and issuance of badges by walk-in clients
- Every indoor venue or convention centre shall set aside a well-equipped holding / emergency room for any suspected cases
- At venues and convention centres, screens shall be installed at entrances to display safety awareness information, while brand ambassadors will engage delegates checking into the event and advise them on safety protocols
