Ibom Air is preparing flights to Cameroon Ibom Air is preparing flights to Cameroon

Nigerian airline Ibom Air is currently deploying a fleet of five 90-seat Bombardier CRJ900 regional jets from an article published on the Forbes website on August 4.

As the company is preparing to expand its activities in Nigeria, it is also considering new services in the Cemac zone, in particular via Gabon and Cameroon. This will stimulate its expansion in Central Africa, and "perhaps as far as East Africa in the long term".

“We'll start with some of the nearby destinations like Accra [in Ghana], like Libreville in Gabon, like Douala in Cameroon,” COO George Uriesi told Forbes, referring to outbound services from Lagos and 'Uyo in Nigeria. Before adding, "We will do that with the CRJs."

The startup carrier began operations in June 2019 with funding from the government of Akwa Ibom, the country's largest oil-producing state. Its network was grounded at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, but flights resumed in July. Calabar became the airline's fourth regular destination last month, reaching the capital Abuja, the financial hub of Lagos and Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom state.
