Jambojet will make Mombasa its secondary hub
Officially, Jambojet now has a second base in Kenya. According to the August 7, 2020 edition of The Kenya Gazette, the low-cost carrier has been approved to develop a secondary base at Mombasa International Airport. On reading the official journal, the private Kenyan company has obtained licenses from the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) to carry out regular international and domestic flights from the country's second largest city.
Internationally, these are the routes to Kigali in Rwanda, Entebbe in Uganda, Addis Ababa in Ethiopia, Dar-Es-Salaam and Zanzibar in Tanzania, Moroni in the Comoros, and Dzaoudzi in Mayotte. Its domestic network from the Mombasa platform will lead to Kisumu, Eldoret, Malindi and Lamu.
Jambojet has also received clearances to open new routes from its main base at Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. These will serve Bujumbura in Burundi, Entebbe in Uganda, and Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo. But also the Kenyan cities of Lodwar, Eldoret, Isiolo and Kitale.
But with the uncertainties surrounding the short-term resumption of air transport, it is not certain that the carrier will launch these new corridors soon.
