SonAir transfers its two Boeing 737-700s to TAAG
On August 20, TAAG-Linhas Aéreas de Angolaofficially took possession of two Boeing 737-700s (msn 35954 and 35956), previously operated by SonAir, a subsidiary of Sonangol, the Angolan state-owned oil company.
The carrier suspended commercial operations on November 30, 2019 as part of the restructuring of its parent company. Prior to this cessation, Sonair operated regular domestic flights to Catumbela, Lubango, Cabinda and Soyo. In the new reorganization, its activity is now refocused on its role of supporting the oil industry with flights to the offshore, with its fleet of helicopters.
130 SonAir employees should also be transferred to the workforce of TAAG, the national airline. "The transfer of 90 workers is already guaranteed, and the situation of 40 others is being analyzed," said Rúben da Costa, chairman of the executive committee of SonAir, in January.
With this acquisition, TAAG now has sixteen aircraft including seven 737-700, five 777-300, three 777-200 and two recently acquired Dash8-400. Four other aircraft of the type will be gradually delivered from October.
