Brazilian manufacturer Embraer to support Camair-Co's rescue plan Brazilian manufacturer Embraer to support Camair-Co's rescue plan

Camair-Co, in cessation of activities since March 2020, could be assisted in its relaunch by Embraer, which has strong experience in Africa. The Brazilian manufacturer sent a letter to this effect on October 2 to the Cameroonian authorities. Embraer has the second largest aircraft fleet on the continent with more than 200 aircraft operated in 25 African countries by 50 operators.

Camair-Co could benefit from Embraer's expertise in the coming months. In any case, this is the intention displayed by the Brazilian manufacturer, the second largest supplier of aircraft on the African continent, which wants to support the Cameroonian carrier in its recovery plan. The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Brazil to Cameroon, Vivian Loss Sanmartin, let it be known this Friday, October 2, 2020 during the working session with the Cameroonian Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest Massena NGALLE BIBEHE.

"During this hearing, the latter [the ambassador, editor's note] gave the Minister of Transport a letter in which the Brazilian manufacturer of aircraft" Embraer "expressed its interest in making its contribution within the framework of the recovery plan of the national airline Camair-co ”indicates a press release from the ministry on its Facebook page.

Embraer knows Africa well where he has a strong and proven track record. "Ten years ago, we only had 40 planes on the continent... today we have more than 200 planes operated in 25 African countries by 50 operators" affirmed last year Raul Villaron, the former vice-president. President of Embraer Commercial Aviation for the Middle East and Africa. The manufacturer has the second largest aircraft fleet in Africa, behind Boeing.

In the Central and West Africa sub-region, Brazilian aircraft are celebrating Africa World Airlines (AWA) in Ghana and Air Peace in Nigeria, which each have eight Embraer E145s with 50 seats. Air Burkina operates larger versions including the E175 and 195. Congo Airways recently ordered two Embraer E190-E2s with purchase rights for two more. Air Peace's order book also includes ten Embraer E195-E2s (with purchase rights for 20 additional aircraft). It is the largest customer of this version in Africa. United Nigeria is expected to take to the skies by the end of the year with a fleet of four E145s.

These are all assets that could well tip the Cameroonian authorities while Camair-Co lives worried days, after the failure of the Boeing Consulting recovery plan approved in July 2016. In cessation of activity since March, the Cameroonian carrier no longer has any operational aircraft. The two MA60s of the Cameroonian flag, usually deployed on the domestic market, require maintenance. Its two 737-700s, grounded since February 2019, are desperate to be transported to Ethiopia for heavy maintenance. It is also in the workshops of Ethiopian Airlines in Addis Ababa that the 767-300, the only long-haul aircraft of the carrier, has been "abandoned" since January 12, 2018. Last week, the carrier in deficit and heavily in debt has chartered a 135-seat Boeing 737-300 belonging to the Ukrainian company Jonika. A rental with crew which heralds an imminent resumption of activities. But for what result without a sharp assistance?
