RwandAir is back in SA
RwandAir resumed flights between Kigali and Johannesburg via Lusaka on October 10, and hopes to introduce a direct service soon. The carrier is operating three weekly flights from Johannesburg, departing from OR Tambo International Airport at 23h30 Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and arriving in Kigali at 05h20 the following morning.
Return flights will depart Kigali at 01h30 and arrive in Johannesburg at 07h10. There is a 40-minute stop in Lusaka in both directions, to embark new pax and disembark Lusaka-bound pax.
Thembela Dladla, RwandAir country manager South Africa, told Travel News that the carrier hoped to resume direct daily flights out of Johannesburg soon. He added that flights from Cape Town are planned from December, but might be resumed even earlier.
Thembela said the carrier was seeing a lot of interest in its network into East and West Africa from the SA market, particularly Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, Douala, Lagos, Abuja and Accra. He added that a lot of effort had gone into reassuring passengers about their safety and the airline was seeing positive results from this.
A negative COVID-19 PCR test is required for all travellers arriving in, transiting through or departing from Rwanda. The test must be performed within 120 hours of departure time.
