Ghana to start issuing electronic visas in 2021 Ghana to start issuing electronic visas in 2021

From 2021, Ghana will introduce a new electronic visa system to ease the process of obtaining travel authorizations. The procurement process has been launched for the selection of a company that will partner with the Ghana Immigration Service (SIG) for its implementation.

"Design, supply, install, build capacity and deploy an electronic visa solution (eVisa) for the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) under the GTDP" These are the missions assigned to the future winner of the call for international offer launched by the Ghanaian Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Monday, October 19.

Interested companies have until 11 a.m. on December 4 to submit their application. The electronic visa should be available in the second half of 2021, its installation and deployment being scheduled between January 1 to May 31, 2021 at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra, at the border checkpoints of Paga, Elubo, Aflao, Takoradi and Tema, as well as to any place in the world where a visitor would like to obtain a visa to go to Ghana.

Visa reform is one of the four pillars of GTDP, a large project launched by Ghana to "improve the performance of tourism in targeted destinations". This project benefits from a financing of 40 million USD from the World Bank, granted in the form of a loan with a maturity of 30 years and unblockable over 5 years. Part of this envelope was used by the Ministry of Tourism on Tuesday, October 20, to support the first 15 beneficiary organizations. In all, 1,476 tourism stakeholders will benefit, for a total budget of 1.3 million USD.
