Air Senegal adds an Airbus A321-200 to its fleet
Air Senegal took delivery of an Airbus A321-200 on November 28, 2020. The 18-year-old aircraft (6V-AMC, msn 1881) is owned by Carlyle Aviation Partners. It was previously operated Thomas Cook Airlines.
Its arrival should help build the future development of its lines to Europe where it currently serves Paris, Marseille and Barcelona.
These city pairs are operated by A330-900 (to France) and A319 to Spain. Before the crisis, the carrier also linked Milan to Italy; two new connections (in June) to London and Geneva had been added. The transatlantic routes including Washington and New York in the United States were also included in its 2020 growth plan.
A second A321-200, still taken from the same lessor, is expected in the coming months. The 165-seat aircraft will also play a major role in the reconstruction and strengthening of the African network.
Since the resumption of its continental flights on July 17, Air Senegal has reconnected with Côte d'Ivoire, Mauritania, Guinea and Mali. In mid-November, the company opened a route to Cotonou and three routes (Douala, Libreville, Brazzaville) to Central Africa.
The resumption of its flights to Cape Verde, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, Niger, Nigeria, Ghana and Morocco remains expected.
Started in 2018, Air Senegal operates a fleet comprising two Airbus A319s, two ATR72-600s, one Boeing 737-500 (leased) and two A330-900s, one of which leased from Hi Fly Malta - currently out of service. Its order book includes eight Airbus A220-300s at a list price of USD 732 million. The first deliveries are initially expected in 2021.
