Cabo Verde Airlines awaits confirmation of restructuring plan
Cabo Verde Airlines (CVA) will resume operations shortly. In any case, this is what the Cape Verdean Prime Minister suggested on Wednesday, December 16, during the monthly debate in Parliament, organized under the theme "Diaspora and development", News Avia reports.
Asked about the situation of the parastatal company (51% for Lofleidir Cabo Verde, 39% for the State, 7.65% for the diaspora and 2.35% for the workers), Ulisses e Silva replied, that 'it' is a process that will soon be closed”. The Head of Government thus referred to the discussions initiated since last May, between the State and Lofleidir Cabo Verde, for the restructuring of the company.
According to Mr. Silva, the restructured carrier will give priority to its routes to Lisbon in Portugal, and Boston in the United States. Since the Cape Verdean skies reopened on October 12, it is the Portuguese flags TAP and SATA that connect the island to these two countries. CVA's planes remain grounded for lack of financial resources. In fact, the suspension of international flights to Cape Verde on March 19 worsened the company's cash flow difficulties.
On September 26, the Council of Ministers authorized the General Directorate of the Treasury to grant an amendment to guarantee a loan of $ 1 million of the national flagship with the Caixa Económica de Cabo Verde (CECV) bank. This sum is nevertheless insignificant, the management of CVA urgently seeking a long-term loan, to guarantee its functioning.
