Cross River State prepares to launch its airline "Cally Air"
Cally Air is expected to start up activities by 2021. The future carrier, in gestation since 2016, is a joint venture between Cross River State in Nigeria and Dana Group.
From its base at Calabar airport, it will begin operations with an initial fleet of two Boeing 737-300 (msn 30334, 29266) with 149 seats, with formalities for their entry into service almost complete, Jake reported recently.
Enya, the state aviation commissioner. The carrier is eyeing in particular domestic services to Lagos and Abuja. It also aims to serve Obudu, on the border with Cameroon. Here, the state is currently building an international airport. Its delivery is scheduled for 2021. Once launched, Cally Air will enter a dense sky where there are already ten local companies namely, Arik Air, Air Peace, Dana Air, Med-View, Aero Contractors, Overland, First Nation, Azman Air, Max Air, and Ibom Air (which started operations in 2019) from neighboring Akwa Ibom state. Next year, United Nigeria, the new private company based in Enugu, is also expected to take to the air.
