Airlink is increasingly positioning itself as the main airline in Southern Africa.

In addition to densifying its existing routes, the private South African company is opening of new routes. On March 3, Airlink will inaugurate a direct line between Cape Town and Harare. From that date, the private South African company will offer 3 weekly flights between the South African port city and the Zimbabwean capital (Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays). The service will operate daily from April 1.

“Airlink intended to start service in mid-January, but curfew changes in South Africa have forced us to revise its schedule; which unfortunately also delayed the launch of the new service until March 3. Existing ticket holders have the choice of going through Johannesburg, or changing their travel date to direct service,”said AirLink President and CEO Rodger Foster. According to the carrier, this new route will save travelers several hours by avoiding transit through Johannesburg, as is currently the case. Indeed, the company already links South Africa to Zimbabwe, via its Johannesburg - Harare corridor (22 weekly flights).

It also serves the Zimbabwean city of Bulawayo (13 weekly flights), always departing from Johannesburg. Note that the Cape Town - Harare route is just the latest in a long series of new destinations. The company recently opened new lines to Lubumbashi, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (3 weekly flights), and Dar-Es-Salaam in Tanzania (3 weekly flights).
