Ghana: more than four years after renovation, Ho airport will receive its first commercial flight
Rebuilt in 2016, Ho Airport remains fallow four years later. Ghanaian companies have so far refused to serve it, seeing no economic interest. With the support of public institutions, Africa World Airlines is finally ready to take up the challenge.
By the end of March, Africa World Airlines (AWA) will open a route from Accra to Ho. According to local press, Dr Ade Dayo, the head of the marketing department of the private Ghanaian company, said announced Thursday, January 28, during a meeting between his company, the Ghana tourism authority (GTA) and the Ghana airport company limited (GACL) among others. AWA plans 2 weekly flights (Monday and Friday, or Thursday and Sunday). Once operational, this connection will mark the start of operation of the Ho airport.
Rebuilt in 2016, the infrastructure serving the capital of the Volta region, near the border with Togo, has never received any commercial theft. On September 10, 2020, the Minister of Aviation, Joseph Kofi Adda, revealed that the country's carriers (Africa World Airlines and Passion Air) saw no economic interest in serving it. This is still relevant, according to the chief marketing officer of AWA. “We understand and know the potential that exists in the Volta region. And we, as an airline, are ready to seize this opportunity, provided the stakeholders agree to affordable packages for the general population,”hopes Dr Ade Dayo. He wants partnerships to help provide Ghanaians with “all-in-one” tourist packages, which include air tickets, ground transportation, accommodation and sightseeing.
