Ghana: first 100% female flight at PassionAir Ghana: first 100% female flight at PassionAir

On Saturday February 20, 2021, a few days before the celebration of International Women's Day (March 8), PassionAir made its very first commercial flight with an all-female crew.

PassionAir flight OP178 between Accra and Tamale, operated entirely by a strictly female crew and cabin crew, was piloted by the captain, Eva Gichuru and her co-pilot Shelia Njonjo. The tandem was accompanied by two flight attendants including Judith Boachie. "This flight shows that women can do the same tasks as men, and even better when they have equal opportunities," said Eva Gichuru.

Through this historic flight, the management of PassionAir intends to further inspire women, especially in the aviation sector where women represent barely 5% of the global pilot population and 3% of general managers. Based at Accra Airport, the private carrier that started commercial operations in 2018, currently operates two aircraft: A Dash 8-400 and a Dash 8-300. Deployed on the domestic market, it ensures its regular operations to Kumasi, Takoradi and Tamale.
