China extends Kenya Airways suspension until April to Guangzhou
Kenya Airways is struggling to get through on its Nairobi-Guangzhou route. Since February, the company has been disrupted in its operations, having been sanctioned by China several times due to cases of Covid-19 among its passengers.
Kenya Airways' Nairobi-Guangzhou route will remain suspended for an additional 4 weeks from March 8, reports the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC). Indeed, 28 new passengers tested positive for Covid-19 when they arrived in Guangzhou on flight KQ882 on February 13. According to a revised CAAC directive in effect since December, any flight on which five to nine passengers test positive for the virus will be suspended for a period of two weeks. Beyond 10 cases, the company will be suspended for 4 weeks on this route. Once the restriction is lifted, the carrier will be allowed to make only one connection per week. Kenya Airways was already facing a 2-week suspension (February 22 to March 5) on this route - its only active route to China - due to 7 positive passengers on a flight made in early February.
This is the third time that the airline has been sanctioned on this route.
