Air Zimbabwe returns to the regional with the relaunch of flights to Tanzania
Air Zimbabwe returns to its regional flights. Since March 2, the Zimbabwean national carrier has reopened its route between Harare and Dar Es Salaam. It now offers two flights per week (Tuesdays and Saturdays) between its base and the economic capital of Tanzania. The route, for the moment without competition, is operated with the Boeing 737-200(Z-WPA).
Since the resumption of its operations on September 23, 2020, Air Zimbabwe - under provisional administration for more than two years - did not operate until 'here than on the home network, connecting Harare to Bulawayo and Victoria Falls. In addition to its 737-200, its active fleet includes 767-200 (Z-WPF).
Last January, Acting General Manager Joseph Makonise indicated that the 2021 target is "to increase the fleet, l 'road expansion and service delivery'. In this regard, it plans to put its first ERJ145 (Z-WPQ) into service. The device, acquired in May 2019, had been sent to South Africa for a C-Check. Air Zimbabwe also plans to introduce a second aircraft of the type by June. The deployment of these planes will allow it to increase its flights between Zimbabwe and South Africa. The company plans in particular 2 daily flights every day of the week between Harare and Johannesburg; and 4 rotations per week between its economic capital, Bulawayo and Johannesburg. For its regional expansion, Air Zimbabwe is eyeing services to Lusaka in Zambia, Lubumbashi and Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo, "as the year progresses". In 2020, the company took delivery of two Boeing 777-200ERs. The two aircraft, from an order negotiated by the government of former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe with Malaysia Airlines, are expected to be leased.
