LAM – Moçambique becomes the exclusive airline of all Mozambique
Since the lifting of travel restrictions, LAM – Moçambique has reconnected with most of its regional network.
Domestically, the Mozambican public carrier connects almost all major cities. It is on the strength of its national presence that the French giant Total requested its services. Since March 1, LAM - Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique has been the exclusive transporter, throughout Mozambique, in particular on the Maputo-Pemba-Afungi road, of Total employees, assigned to the “Mozambique LNG” project (the first land-based development of a liquefied natural gas plant in the country). This is what emerges from a statement released Tuesday, March 9, by the Mozambican national carrier. As part of this three-year contract, LAM provides the French group with a Dash8-400 (operated by its subsidiary Mocambique Expresso). "The agreement between the two companies came after a series of audits that the multinational has carried out with the national company to assess the degree of compliance with standards in terms of flight operations,”says LAM. For the director of the public flagship, João Carlos Pó Jorge, this partnership is an opportunity for his company to expand its client portfolio, in this period of the Covid-19 pandemic. LAM – Moçambique continues to rebuild its network Since the reopening of air borders, LAM has resumed its regular flights to Johannesburg in South Africa, Dar-Es-Salaam in Tanzania, and Nairobi in Kenya.
Domestically, the company links the capital Maputo, with the towns of Beira, Pemba, Afungi, Lichinga, Nacala, Nampula, Tete, Quilimane, Chimoio, Vilankulo and Inhambane. All its routes are operated by codeshare with its subsidiary Mocambique Expresso. The group's active fleet currently includes two 737-700s and one Embraer E145, and last August the carrier also relaunched its only transcontinental route between Maputo and Lisbon. This was temporarily suspended in January. At that time, LAM was operating an Airbus A330-300 chartered from Hi Fly Malta. The return of the carrier to Portugal came after nine years of absence. She had served Lisbon on a Boeing 767-300 leased from Air Seychelles until April 2011, a time when she hoped to launch flights to China and Brazil.
