Transair reconnects Senegal to Sierra Leone after a year of suspension
In March 2020, Transair suspended its international routes due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Currently, the Senegalese private company has taken over 80% of its pre-crisis sub-regional network.
Since March 13, Transair has reopened its Dakar - Freetown route. The Senegalese private company now offers 3 weekly flights (Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays) between the capitals of Senegal and Sierra Leone, via Conakry. The line is operated by Boeing 737-500 (YR-AMD, msn 25271), an aircraft normally leased to Air Senegal by the Romanian company Blue Air. This route, launched in November 2019, was suspended in March 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Currently, the carrier has also resumed its links to Banjul (Gambia), Conakry (Guinea), Praia (Cape Verde) and Bissau (Guinea Bissau). His return to Nouakchott is now expected. Domestically, Transair connects Dakar to Zinguinchor, Cap Skirring, Kolda and Tabacounda. Leader of domestic transport in Senegal, Transair carried out before the health crisis, 60 flights per week, including 40 flights within the country. The company also claimed 90,000 passengers a year. Its own fleet includes one Embraer E120 and two Embraer E145 for a workforce of nearly 100 employees.
