New Princess cruise ship floated out as cruise line announces UK season New Princess cruise ship floated out as cruise line announces UK season

Discovery Princess, the sixth of Princess Cruises’ Royal-class cruise ships, has been floated out at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Monfalcone, while the cruise line has announced it will sail a UK season this summer. Discovery Princess is scheduled to be delivered next year, with her float out marking a significant milestone in her construction process, and her sister ships Regal Princess and Sky Princess will be deployed in the UK from July.

Interior fitting out on Discovery Princess will now begin. The 145,000-ton ship will join the cruise line’s Royal-class, which includes  Royal Princess, Regal Princess, Majestic Princess, Sky Princess and Enchanted Princess. All six of the Royal-class ships were built and delivered by Fincantieri. Princess Cruises has another two cruise ships on order with the shipyard, both of which will be 175,000-gross tons, dual fuel powered and carrying 4,300 guests.

They’re due for delivery in 2023 and 2025.

In the meantime, Princess Cruises has announced that it will be commencing a series of UK cruises aboard Regal Princess and Sky Princess, which will go on sale from March 24th, for UK residents only. Regal Princess will offer 14 UK voyages running from July 31st through to September 23rd, 2021, while Sky Princess will offer eight UK cruises, running from August 30th through to September 28th, 2021. Ports of call include Liverpool, Belfast and Greenock, with itineraries ranging from three to seven nights.

Despite enhanced sanitation measures, social distancing, COVID-testing and mandatory mask wearing, Princess Cruises has promised all other features of a traditional Princess cruise will be available.

“These Summer Seacations will feature many of the signature onboard experiences enjoyed on a Princess holiday,” the line said in a press release. “All world-class dining venues will be open including the specialty restaurants, where guests can dine at Princess favorites Crown Grill Steakhouse and Sabatini’s Italian Trattoria, as well as newer additions to the fleet such as Sky Princess’ Bistro Sur La Mer specialty created with Three Michelin star chef Emmanuel Renaut.”

“A variety of entertainment will be on offer including award-winning production shows in the Princess Theatre, Movies Under the Stars, celebrity guest speakers and live musical performances, such as the resident trio in our signature live jazz venue, Take Five,” it added.

Relaxation and leisure facilities such as fitness classes, swimming pools and spa treatments will also be available, according to the release.
