Hotel Sky Sandton introduces robot staff
While South Africa is known for its beauty, safaris and culture, the country also offers the latest innovations. Hotel Sky Sandton, in Johannesburg, has become the first establishment on the continent to use automated attendants, with the recent introduction of its robot staff.
Robots Lexi, Micah and Ariel are the hotel's answer to travelers' desire for socially distant interaction as a result of Covid. They can deliver room service, provide travel information and can carry up to 660 pounds of luggage from the marble-floored lobby to the rooms.
Guests have the option to interact with staff members or make use of the self-service, which is all controlled by their phone. As a protective measure for the hotel's staff, should a guest come down with coronavirus, Lexi, Micah and Ariel can be deployed to serve them.
As the traveler experience continues to evolve, this is a unique way to adapt and still maintain a high level of service.
The Hotel Sky Sandton offers 453 rooms as well as 13 conference venues, restaurants, bars and other facilities. Hotel Sky is set to open a property in Cape Town next month, with three new robots expected to join the staff there.
