Air Senegal inaugurates three new Airbus A321 services: Cotonou, Douala, Libreville
Air Senegal is positioning itself as a “linker” between the ECOWAS and CEMAC zones. In Central Africa, especially in Cameroon and Gabon, there is indeed a strong West African community.
Air Senegal continues to expand its African network. On Monday March 29, 2021, the Senegalese national airline started a new route following the Dakar-Cotonou-Douala-Libreville route. For this inaugural launch, which marks the start of its regular flights to Benin, Cameroon, and Gabon, the carrier has deployed its Airbus A321 (6V-AMC) configured with 16 seats in Business class and 149 seats in Economy class.
"This coastal route remains a strong economic axis for our company," said the carrier, which until then only operated in Central Africa in repatriation flights and then in Adhoc flights. From now on, Air Senegal will offer three flights per week on this route (Monday, Wednesday, Friday).
On the Cotonou-Douala section, the company will compete with RwandAir and ASKY. In principle, the Airbus A319 will be operating this route. It should be noted that the launch of this new route comes the day after the inauguration of the service to Lyon in France. 3 flights per week are now available on the Dakar – Marseille - Lyon - Dakar route.
In France, Air Senegal also serves Paris. On February 17, it inaugurated its Dakar-Milan route in Italy (3 weekly flights). From next September, the carrier is also planning to start a direct flight to the United States. Before the health crisis, the company - which recently took delivery of its second Airbus A321 - planned to connect London (Great Britain) and Geneva (Switzerland) in June 2020. This is still not the case to date.
