A post pandemic travel boom
With travel restrictions easing and a path back to normalcy starting to become more clear, the question now being asked is what’s expected of the travel and hospitality industry as we move closer to a time where mass travel is once again possible. For many it has largely been expected that early signs will look very promising, but where are the biggest possible booms looking to come from and will it be as simple as a quick recovery, or will it be something a little more involved than that?
Giant cruises looking to return – Initially becoming a point of difficulty at the start of the pandemic with the Diamond Princess and the risk of spread for the virus, it was only a matter of time before cruise ships found their way back to bookings and back to growing interest too. There has now been a move to push for test cruises to move forward too as a way to get this part of the travel industry moving forward once more, and so far, five sailings have been approved in the US with two more potentially on the way too, it may provide the opportunity for the first big return to a big getaway for some, particularly with difficulties in aviation.
Caesars rally shows potential for casinos too – Since the start of the pandemic the closure of the strip in Vegas and other gambling choice destinations have held a bit of a strong position – reports that bookings have remained high despite the difficulties and the ability to re-open from time to time whilst experimenting with new measures has certainly helped. And with shares in some of the bigger casinos seeing a bump over the past month or so, it doesn’t appear as if there’s any potential struggles on the way, and with the reopening getting closer, their position will only strengthen.
“Staycations” may stick around – Whilst international travel has remained off the cards for many over the past year and may do some for some time moving forward too, and that has provided an opportunity for those looking to holiday a little closer to home with camp sites and caravan parks being amongst the more popular choices. Whilst there may be local restrictions of travel, it may certainly be an option for many to stay a little closer to home with some more domestic attractions rather than going too far for the same – it has also helped that sporting events getting going again have helped those looking to stay closer to home too, with upcoming events like the Euros with favourites odds euro games being a reason many stick at home to attend games where possible.
With growing vaccination rates, the next question will be regarding vaccine passports or other potential restrictions for travel that are yet to be seen, despite these it’s certainly looking like there’s going to be a big opportunity for a post pandemic travel boom as many look to get their holiday aspirations back on track.
