"People are tired of meeting via videoconferencing"
Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr expects a less drastic slump in business travel after the pandemic in the long term than previously assumed. "I had previously assumed a decline of 10 to 20 per cent. In the meantime, I believe that the decline will be closer to 10 than 20 per cent," Spohr told the "Süddeutsche Zeitung".
Spohr said that the Group was expecting business travellers to come back very significantly from the third quarter onwards. The longer the crisis lasted, he said, the smaller the proportion of trips that would be completely replaced by video conferences. "People have had enough of meeting by video conference. They want and need to see each other in person again," Spohr hopes. According to him, some guests will also use the more expensive Business and Premium Economy classes privately because of the space and comfort they offer.
