TAP Air Portugal increases flight frequencies to Luanda
After Morocco and Tunisia, TAP Air Portugal continues to expand its presence in Africa. It is now a question of strengthening its position in the Angolan market, where it faces competition from TAAG Angola Airlines.
From 10 July, TAP Air Portugal will add a third weekly rotation between Lisbon and the Angolan capital, Luanda, until October. This reinforcement comes ahead of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) summit, scheduled for 16 and 17 July in Luanda. Exceptionally, TAP intends to offer its third service on Sundays.
The Portuguese flagship is operating an A330-900 with 34 seats in Business Class and 264 in Economy Class on this corridor. TAP Air Portugal has recently opened four new destinations to North Africa, and will compete with TAAG Angola Airlines, which also offers three flights per week with Boeing 777s.
As a reminder, Angola suspended direct flights to Portugal, Brazil and South Africa between 24 January and 13 March, in the most acute phase of the pandemic. The measure was later relaxed. However, the obligation to carry out a PCR test valid for a maximum of 72 hours before boarding and an antigen test for all passengers on arrival at Luanda airport remain in force.
