Transportes Aéreos de Cabo Verde (TACV) to take off again within 6 months Transportes Aéreos de Cabo Verde (TACV) to take off again within 6 months

Renationalized last July, Transportes Aéreos de Cabo Verde (TACV) got a new board of directors and a new management team a month later. Since then, they have been working with the government to resume operations of the Cape Verdean national airline.

Grounded since March 2020 (first because of the Covid-19 pandemic, then due to lack of financial resources), TACV (formerly Cabo Verde Airlines) should take off again within six months. This was announced by the Cape Verdean Minister of Tourism and Transport on Saturday, September 4, at the end of the 2nd World Forum on Tourism Investment in Africa, which took place on the island of Sal: "This is our ambition, this is our goal, and we intend to do it with the necessary urgency, because TACV is an essential element of the development strategy of the air platform that we intend to create in Cape Verde, specifically on the island of Sal.

This platform is, in fact, one of the pillars of our vision for the development of the country. It is not with the domestic market, without looking outward, that we can develop the country," explained Carlos Santos.  This exit of the government member comes less than a month after the new board of directors and the new management team of the carrier took office. Since August 12, Sara Pires is the new president of the board of directors. João Alberto Pereira and Carlos Salgueira are the new executive directors. José Aldino Ribeiro and Neusa Évora are non-executive directors.  The entry into the scene of these new men is the consequence of the renationalization last July 6, of the now former Cabo Verde Airlines. A renationalization decided unilaterally by the State, which denounced "non-compliance with certain agreements" signed last March by the former majority shareholder, Lofleidir Cabo Verde (which held 51% of the capital). However, it should be noted that the Icelandic fund is still contesting this renationalization.
