Air France postpones its arrival in Mozambique by several months
Initially scheduled for June and then postponed until the end of October, due to the economic and health situation in Mozambique, Maputo remains a strategic destination in Air France's expansion plan in Africa.
Air France will finally inaugurate its new service to Maputo in Mozambique via Johannesburg with a Boeing 777-300ER in early December 2021. The airline announced this on September 9 on one of its Twitter accounts.
From December 2, the French flag carrier will offer two flights per week, on Thursdays and Sundays to the Mozambican capital. Once effective, Maputo will become its 43rd city served on the continent. In addition, Air France will be the second airline from a European Union country to operate scheduled flights to Mozambique, after TAP Air Portugal, which has always maintained its route from Lisbon.
Between Maputo and Paris, Air France will also be in indirect competition with Ethiopian Airlines (via Addis Ababa), Kenya Airways (via Nairobi), Qatar Airways (via Doha) and Turkish Airlines (via Istanbul).
