Airlink inaugurates Entebbe in Uganda
Intra-African flights are gradually returning to normality as travel restrictions are eased. With this momentum, Airlink, Southern Africa's leading regional carrier, is spreading its wings to the east of the continent.
Airlink, Southern Africa's largest regional carrier is gradually rebuilding its network. The airline inaugurated its service to Entebbe in Uganda on Sunday 19 September.
The LNK190 flight left Or Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg at 09:19 and landed at Entebbe International Airport at 14:06 where it was welcomed by the Minister of State for Transport, Hon. Fred Byamukama and a representative of the Director General of the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA).
From now on, the all-Embraer company will offer two weekly rotations (Wednesdays and Sundays) on this route in direct competition with Uganda Airlines.
In fact, Entebbe becomes the 23rd international city and Uganda the 12th African country served by the South African operator. It also flies to DR Congo, Tanzania, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Zambia among others. As a reminder, Airlink had announced on June 09 that its Ugandan service was to be effective from July 19 but the health situation in both countries did not allow this launch. The South African airline said its flights to Entebbe "will strengthen closer relations and activities between the Southern and Eastern African blocs and also enable tourists to explore and discover the diverse and rich range of travel experiences in both regions.
