Uganda Airlines finally lands in Dubai, its first destination outside Africa
Uganda Airlines operated its inaugural flight to the United Arab Emirates on Monday 4 October. Departing from its hub in Entebbe at 12:15pm, flight UR 444 landed at Dubai International Airport at 6:45pm local time.
From now on, the Ugandan flag carrier will operate on this route three times a week with its A330-800neo fleet. The two aircraft (MSN 1977, 1979) are configured to accommodate 20 passengers in Business Class, 28 in Premium and 210 in Economy. On this corridor, Uganda Airlines is in direct competition with Emirates Airlines and Flydubai.
The opening of this route marks the beginning of the construction of the long-haul network of the Ugandan flagship, which in March this year announced that it had also secured slots to serve London Heathrow International Airport (LHR). The carrier also revealed that it was working on opening two other transcontinental routes to Mumbai in India and Guangzhou in China.
Uganda Airlines, founded in 1977, was relaunched in 2018. To date, the national flag operates to Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, South Africa, South Sudan and Tanzania. Its fleet also includes four Bombardier CRJ-900s.
