Emirates et Flydubai suspendent les vols vers Khartoum
For the past few months, Sudan has been living with pro-civilian and pro-military mobilisations as the country begins its delicate democratic transition. The giant demonstration planned for Thursday in the capital opens the field to uncertainty, which makes even the carriers that serve the country fearful.
Emirates has announced that its flights to Khartoum scheduled for 21 and 22 October have been cancelled. Customers with a final destination of Khartoum will not be accepted for travel until 23 October from any point in the Emirates network," the airline said on its website. "Affected customers should contact their booking agents for rebooking options. Emirates regrets any inconvenience caused. "The airline did not specify a reason, but the announcement comes as protests rage in the East African country over the power-sharing agreement between military and civilian leaders.
"Due to the current situation in Khartoum, flydubai flights to Khartoum International Airport on October 21 and 22 have been cancelled," a Flydubai spokesperson also said. "We will continue to monitor the situation closely - passengers who have purchased tickets to travel to Khartoum will be booked on the next available flight or may receive a refund. "Last Sunday, the U.S. Embassy in Sudan issued a notice regarding the said mood movement. "Protests are expected to take place on Thursday, October 21, 2021. The exact start times and locations are unknown but are likely to be widespread throughout Khartoum, as well as in other states. The protests may result in road closures and may escalate."
