Madagascar welcomes the Airbus A220-300 in commercial flight for the first time Madagascar welcomes the Airbus A220-300 in commercial flight for the first time

The Airbus A220-300 made its first appearance on Madagascan soil on Tuesday 26 October. The flight took place when Air Austral resumed its route from Reunion.

Flight UU611 landed at Antananarivo-Ivato International Airport at around 1.30pm local time.  For this return to the Big Island, the Reunionese airline deployed its very first A220-300 (F-OLAV) which was received last July.

Air Austral has a total of 3 aircraft of this type, mainly deployed to Mauritius and Mayotte. Its fleet also includes two 737-800s, two 787-8s and three 777-300ERs. Air Austral now offers two flights a week to the Malagasy capital on Wednesdays and Fridays. The route is operated by its competitors.

It should be recalled that Madagascar has reopened its borders to regional flights since 23 November. In the wake of this, Air Mauritius has also resumed service to Antananarivo. Connections with Europe will start on 6 November.
