Iconic Chaka Railway Station to commence operations
Residents of Chaka town are set to start rail transport services. This development follows the completion of the construction of the Chaka railway station in Chaka town, Nyeri county.
The town lies along the Nairobi to Nanyuki branch line which is served by the Nanyuki Safari train. The train does one round trip every week departing Nairobi every Friday at 9:00 am and makes the return trip every Sunday. Once operations commence the train will be jetting into Chaka railway station every Friday at 15:21 hrs on its way to Nanyuki and at 10:23 hrs on its journey back to Nairobi from Nanyuki.
Chaka town is renowned for its central location of being a business Hub to both Central and Eastern Kenya, as far out as Marsabit and Garissa. The station will impact trade in the area to a great extent by supporting the offloading of wares bought from other areas; transportation of agricultural inputs and farm produce into and out of Chaka town alongside promoting local tourism.
The station’s proximity to the new Chaka Market will boost the traders by facilitating trade whereby goods destined for and bought from the new Chaka Market will be transported through the station.
Unlike the other stations along the line, the ultra-modern Chaka railway station boasts of a platform, waiting hall, restaurant, car park alongside other amenities.
Previously, passengers hailing from Chaka needed to travel to Kiganjo or Naromoru stations in order to catch the train. These two towns lie on either side of Chaka town, are also served by the train boast of railway stations.
The Nairobi to Nanyuki Safari train proved to be a big hit amongst the members of the public when operations commenced in December 2020.
