United and Delta maintain South Africa flight schedules
The two U.S. airlines that service South Africa have not altered their flight schedules despite the decision by President Biden to restrict visitation from the nation. United and Delta both said no such changes are in the works.
"Throughout the pandemic we've maintained service to places like Australia, Europe and South America, and United remains committed to maintaining a safe and vital link for repatriation efforts as well as the transport of essential supplies like vaccines between Africa and the U.S," a United statement reads. "The safety of our customers and employees is our top priority. We will continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments to our schedule as necessary. "
The carrier currently flies five-times weekly between Newark and Johannesburg. United also plans to go forward with the relaunch of Newark-Cape Town service on Wednesday.
Delta currently flies three times per week between Atlanta and Johannesburg.
Concern about the omicron Covid-19 variant prompted Biden to limit arrivals from South Africa to U.S. citizens and residents as well their immediate families.
