Tanzania promotes Tourist Attractions in Unwto meeting
TANZANIA is capitalising on the ongoing 24th session of the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) by marketing its tourist products to attract more tourists. "In ensuring that we increase the number of tourists visiting our country, promoting our tourism in this meeting is crucial," Dr Damas Ndumbaro, Natural Resources and Tourism Minister, said on the sidelines of the session held in Madrid City, Spain.
The four-day meeting which started on Wednesday this week was organised by the UNWTO. Dr Ndumbaro highlighted benefits that Tanzania was looking forward to benefiting from, including marketing its tourism and participating in key tourism sessions.
During the first day, Tanzania got an opportunity to market its tourism and telling the gathering over its prevailed safety to encourage tourists to visit the country. "We have told the participants to come to Tanzania to witness wonderful tourist attractions such as Serengeti and Ngorongoro National Parks and attractive beaches in Zanzibar," Dr Ndumbaro stated.
The Tanzanian delegation was also distributing postcards to each participant of the session, a move which is meant to promote Tanzania's tourism. Dr Ndumbaro said during the meeting Tanzania would also sign a contract with the UNWTO for it to host the 65th Africa's tourism conference which would be held on October 6-8 in Arusha.
"We bring this conference to Tanzania because it is another opportunity. We have been given this opportunity to be the host of this event. After signing this contract we would be assured by 100 per cent being the next host," he explained.
The minister said they would use the ongoing UNWTO to endorse law on advocating for rights of tourists globally.
"We have learnt during the Covid-19 pandemic that some countries closed their borders while tourists were still in those countries and could not go back to their countries. We therefore pass the law to protect tourists in such an emergency environment," he explained. He said the law is expected to boost the value of the tourism business globally because it would be protecting the rights of the tourist.
"With this law, a tourist would feel safe to visit the country. We (Tanzania) have been at forefront to ensure that this law passes," he stated.
