Air Madagascar charters the Dreamliner 787 from Ethiopian Airlines for its international flights
During the current month, Air Madagascar's Antananarivo - Paris route is served by a 270-seat Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner (24 in business class and 246 in economy class), leased from Ethiopian Airlines, the Ethiopian national airline. This aircraft replaces another of the same segment, chartered from the Spanish private carrier Air Europa in November.
This type of aircraft is preferred for the comfort it offers passengers, both in business and economy class, said the company in a statement published on its Facebook page on 1 December. The route between the Malagasy and French capitals (two weekly flights on Mondays and Fridays) is for the moment Air Madagascar's only international route, since the progressive opening of Madagascar on 23 October.
According to Ch-aviation's advanced fleet module, Air Madagascar and its subsidiary Tsaradia have no operational aircraft. Their fleet includes two A340-300s, four ATR72-500s (two leased from Falko Regional Aircraft and two from Elix Aviation Capital); two ATR72-600s (Elix Aviation Capital) and three DHC6-300s.
As a reminder, last month, the Commercial Court of Antananarivo gave its approval for the placement of Air Madagascar and its subsidiary under the protection of the bankruptcy law, an essential step for its judicial recovery. A bankruptcy judge and two trustees have been appointed to manage the restructuring plan. To date, the company's accumulated losses are close to USD 80 million for a total debt of over USD 72 million.
