Ghana closes its skies to unvaccinated travellers Ghana closes its skies to unvaccinated travellers

"All persons aged 18 years and above arriving in Ghana will be required to provide proof of full vaccination against Covid-19 at the time of boarding," is the key takeaway from the latest update by the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) on Monday, December 14, 2021.

A person is said to be fully vaccinated, as defined by the Ghanaian authorities, when he or she has taken all doses of one of the vaccines approved and registered by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) of Ghana, and which are on the World Health Organisation (WHO) emergency use list.

"However, people vaccinated with vaccines on the WHO emergency use list, but not registered by the FDA for emergency use authorization, will be offered one of the FDA-approved vaccines upon arrival at the airport," the GACL says.

All unvaccinated Ghanaians and residents in Ghana who are currently outside the country, and intending to return within fourteen days from December 14, 2021 (between December 14 and 28), are exempted from full vaccination.  "They would however be vaccinated on arrival at the airport," Ghana Airports warns.

In addition to being vaccinated, passengers bound for Ghana must complete the Ghana Health Declaration Form at www.ghs-hdf.org at the point of boarding. They must also have a negative PCR test for Covid-19 from an accredited laboratory in the country of origin, carried out 72 hours before travel time.

Airlines that bring passengers to Accra Kotoka International Airport who are not fully vaccinated, who have not completed a health declaration form, or who do not have a negative PCR test, will be fined $3,500 per passenger for each failure.
