Rhino sanctuary rescues 12-hour old rhino calf Rhino sanctuary rescues 12-hour old rhino calf

The Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary has taken in a 12-hour old rhino calf on Thursday afternoon, 9 December. The calf was discovered, rescued and brought to the sanctuary by a South African National Parks (SANParks) team who were performing a routine operation in Kruger National Park.

The calf was incredibly weak and could not stand. Her umbilical cord was still attached. The calf has been receiving round-the-clock care to prevent her critical condition from worsening. The sanctuary has teams who rotate in shifts to ensure that there is always a caregiver by her side.

The calf is being fed hourly and will remain in the care of the sanctuary until she is self-sufficient, which is still a long way to go. The Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary rescues, rehabilitates and releases orphaned rhinos in protected areas through community involvement and sustainable solutions.
