African Sun Limited pledges to help tourism grow African Sun Limited pledges to help tourism grow

Hospitality group Africa Sun Limited has pledged to work with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority to ensure the growth of the tourism industry in Zimbabwe.

Tourism is one of the key pillars for economic revival in Zimbabwe together with agriculture and mining. Economic experts say it is also one of the low hanging fruits that the government should take advantage of.

However, the sector was heavily affected by COVID-19 which was recorded in the country in March of 2020.

COVID-19 forced governments to put lockdown measures and travel restrictions which disrupted travel thereby almost killing the sector both locally and internationally.

With the advent of vaccines and efforts to curb the spread of the virus by the government, the sector is beginning to come out of the woods.

This has seen recently appointed chief executive officer of Africa Sun Limited Peter Saungweme pledging to put efforts to ensure the sector grows.

Saungweme made the pledge during an introductory meeting with ZTA acting chief executive Givemore Chidzidzi.

“I am looking forward to African Sun Limited’s contribution to the recovery and growth of the tourism sector. We will work hand in hand with the ZTA to ensure that tourism scales greater heights,” he said.

Also commenting on the meeting Chidzidzi paid tribute to Africa Sun for the role it has played in the tourism sector.

“We would like to thank the African Sun and Ed Shangwa for the support they have rendered to the ZTA over the years. We believe that operators such as the African Sun are critical to achieving government’s objective of a $5 billion tourism economy.

‘’This is heavily anchored on lucrative and mutually beneficial public-private partnerships,” he said.

Ed Shangwa who led the Africa Sun Limited delegate said “we’ve received tremendous support from the ZTA and I am confident that this will continue into the future.”
