Kuwait Airways adds Casablanca to its African network
With the reopening of its airspace scheduled for February 7, Morocco will once again welcome a good number of international airlines. New carriers are also eyeing the destination, such as Kuwait Airways.
Kuwait Airways plans to add five new routes to its network in 2022. Among these is the service to Casablanca in Morocco.
Once effective, the Moroccan economic capital will become Kuwait Airways' third African destination and Morocco the second country served by the Kuwaiti flag.
According to Routes Online, Kuwait Airways will offer two weekly rotations between Kuwait City and Casablanca from June 1st. The route will be operated by Airbus A330-800 aircraft with a capacity of 32 passengers in Business Class and 203 in Economy.
It will have no direct competition on this route. But indirectly, Kuwait Airways will be competing with major Persian Gulf airlines such as Emirates and Qatar Airways which already offer services to the Moroccan city from their respective bases in Dubai and Doha. In addition, Royal Air Maroc reciprocally serves Doha in Qatar and Dubai in the Emirates.
Once operational, the direct Kuwait City - Casablanca link will intensify the flow of passengers between the two countries. In 2019, according to the same source, traffic between Kuwait and the North African country totalled some 60,000 round-trip passengers.
Kuwait Airways currently offers services to Egypt by serving two cities, Cairo and Sohag south of Asyut, on the left bank of the Nile. The Kuwaiti airline has a fleet of 30 aircraft, with orders for a further 20 (nine A320neo, six A330-800 and five A350-900). Its other routes planned for 2022 are Manchester (May 3), Moscow (June 2), Madrid (June 11) and Salalah (September 13).
